Need a move? This Italian town is selling homes to anyone for €1 right now

We have it pretty good here in Canada, but we can’t help but wonder what life would be like somewhere… warmer. For those who feel the same and are also far more spontaneous than we are, a charmed (not to mention cheap AF) life could await you in the tiny weather-blessed town of Laurenzana, Italy because you can actually buy a home for €1 right now.

Though this might sound insanely unrealistic, this has actually become a pretty standard practice in other towns around the country, and for good reason.

There are a ton of incredibly unpopulated areas in the region with a few dilapidated homes, but a TON of potential.

In the hopes of bringing them back to life, they’ve begun jacking prices down to almost nothing and in exchange just ask that owners do their best to fix their place up over the course of three years.

Now, according to CNN, there is one difference in the case of Laurenzana, but we’re happy to share that it’s actually a good one.

You see, instead of asking for a deposit, much like they have in other places, they’ve actually decided to rely on the good faith of the buyers. These fees are given back once reconstruction is complete but can cost anywhere between $3,003.92 CAD and $7,507.98 making it difficult for people to get started. For this reason, they’ve gotten rid of it altogether.

Homes come in all sizes, can be used for almost anything, and differ in the amount of work needed to be repaired but all cost the same amount. Several dollars less than your morning coffee.

If you’re interested, the city asks that you contact comunelaurenzana@rete.basilicata.it for more information, but think twice! It might be €1, but buying an entire home in Italy is a pretty big commitment and no one is saying that it’s going to be easy.
