From coast to coast, there are some incredible places to see and amazing things to do, but if you love mountains and fresh air, there’s no place better than Banff, Alberta. High above it all? Mount Forbes—the highest peak in the national park.
Located northwest of the town, this particular summit is 11,851 feet from its base, making it the fifth-highest in the province, and Alberta’s crown jewel.
Are you a budding mountaineer or an aspiring alpinist?
A “true alpine climbing experience,” Yamnuska Adventures describes Forbes as a perfect opportunity to develop your skills.
In fact, if you’re interested in challenging yourself, they offer a three-day expedition with instruction, a watchful guide, and a detailed itinerary.
“The most popular route on the peak is the West Ridge. From the bivy site, we will access the West Ridge via the Rosita Couloir or up the North Glacier,” they explain.
“From there we will cross a bergschrund and access the Northwest Face to reach a col on the West Ridge where we will follow the Ridgeline to gain the summit. We will descend the way we went up.”
