On top of the world: This national park is home to Alberta’s tallest mountain

There’s magic in the Alberta Rockies, but one mountain is in a league of its own. Located in one of Wild Rose Country’s most beloved national Parks, Mount Columbia is the tallest mountain in the province and the journey is unparalleled.

“Jasper National Park is an area of dramatic mountain peaks and expansive valleys,” writes Parks Canada.

“Many of the mountains rise to elevations above 3000 metres. Mt. Columbia, the highest peak in Alberta, is 3782 metres. The lowest point in the park, 985 metres above sea level, lies near the park’s east gate.”

Standing second to Mount Robson as the tallest in the Canadian Rockies, this absolute beast is an impressive feat – though it should only be attempted by seasoned professionals.

For those who are experienced, however, Mount Columbia is a must-visit as long as you’re prepared and have a few days as could take several to get there and back.

Want to check it out? Consider a guided adventure with Yamnuska Mountain Adventures – which offers a ski expedition in April.

As for before and after you’ve ascended the giant? If you’ve still got energy, consider checking out the Columbia Icefields, or one of these other hikes in the area!
