This Ontario town has tree-covered rolling hills & a stunning park spanning 1,300 acres

You won’t have to venture far outside of Toronto to reach rolling hills, stunning trails and boundless outdoor recreational opportunities. Mono, Ontario is just over an hour away by car from the city – an adorable town with plenty to do year-round including during the upcoming change of summer to fall.

About Mono

According to the Mono town website, “Mono is best known for its spectacular landscape of escarpment, villages and tree-covered rolling hills. The UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve designated Niagara Escarpment informs the character of the town by providing breathtaking views.”

The area sits at the southeast corner of the County of Dufferin, just north of Caledon and northeast of Orangeville.

Outdoors lovers flock to Mono for one of its most well-known attractions – Mono Cliffs Provincial Park.

What to do in Mono

Speaking of Mono Cliffs Park, you have to add it to your list of places to stop in town. The park spans over 1,300 acres with cool features such as a walk-through area of a canyon on a trail or another trail with sights off of 30-metre cliffs.

There are eight different trails you can check out at the park with none over 5 km so you can keep your hikes easy and quick.

Mono is also home to Hockley Valley Nature Reserve which was created by a long process of erosion!

Hockley Valley is part of the Niagara Parks System and the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve.

While there are no official visitor facilities, Hockley Valley has hiking spots including The Bruce Trail which winds through the reserve.

There’s also Monora Park! This park is likely the best option if you’re bringing along your family as it features a 40-acre natural park complete with 18 km of walking trails, x-country ski trails, a picnic shelter, a gazebo and an open playing field.

As you can see, there’s no shortage of things to do in Mono, Ontario especially if you love being outside.

Put this down for an upcoming fall adventure – the colours of fall in Mono should not be missed!
