You can now ride an e-bike using Vancouver’s bike share system & here’s what to know

That’s right, Vancouver. E-bikes have officially arrived at Mobi by Shaw Go – the city’s public bike share system. Starting on August 30th, folks who want to hop on a Mobi and go on a joyride can do so with an emission-free electric bike that gives users an extra boost. No need to muscle through those unanticipated inclines!

With three e-assist levels, three gears, and pedal assistance up to 25 km per hour – your ride is all but guaranteed to be smooth and both time and energy-efficient.

“We are thrilled to be adding e-bikes to the Mobi system,” says Mia Kohout, General Manager of Vancouver Bike Share. “When e-bikes have been adopted in bike share systems around the world, ridership usually significantly increases as e-bikes make getting around by bike more accessible to a wider group of people, particularly in a city like ours with lots of hills.”

The addition of 500 e-bikes and 50 new stations (30 e-stations) brings the total system size to a whopping 2,500 bikes and 250 stations. In other words, you’ll have plenty of options around town if you opt for wheels over foot traffic.

Users can locate the nearest e-bikes on the new Mobi by Shaw Go app. Luckily, docking an e-bike is no different than docking a classic Mobi bike, so it shouldn’t involve too much of a learning curve. Simply unlock the e-bike from any e-station and return it to the nearest available dock.

And that’s all for now, folks! Grab some e-bikes and explore Vancouver while the weather is still on our side.
