Want to travel back to simpler times? Well, you don’t need a time machine to do so! Merrickville, Ontario is one of the only authentic preserved 19th-century villages in the province, and it’s also one of the “most beautiful.”
The Victorian village is located in eastern Ontario on the banks of the Rideau Canal, just one hour outside of Ottawa.
It’s described as “unique and vibrant” and was also named Canada’s most beautiful village by the organization Communities in Bloom, according to Merrickville’s website.
It’s truly a trip back in time.
“You won’t find any parking meters or traffic lights here but you might find the Town Crier and very friendly villagers,” says the village chamber’s website.
The community has more designated heritage buildings than any other of similar size in Ontario — we’re talking over 100!
Merrickville boasts “heritage, natural attractions, delightful restaurants and shops,” as well as “small town hospitality and “year-round enchantment.”
