This ice skating trail by a lake in Ontario is a hidden gem

Looking for a new kind of adventure this winter? The ice skating trail at MacGregor Point Provincial Park has to be at the top of your list.

Located on the shores of Lake Huron near Port Elgin, Ontario, MacGregor Point is an idyllic destination all year round.

In the colder months, the park hosts outdoor skating on its magical 400-metre skating trail, which “provides an unforgettable outdoor experience,” according to Ontario Parks.

Every evening during the skating season, the trail is illuminated by lights until 10 PM every day of the week, and “that’s when things get truly magical.”

Nothing sounds more peaceful than gliding on the ice with nothing but forest and expansive lake views all around you.

MacGregor Point also has a large ice pad for outdoor hockey enthusiasts, plenty of snowshoeing trails, crosscountry skiing, and even winter camping accommodations.

Keep in mind that the park tends to get very busy during peak winter weekends. To avoid the crowds, you should try to plan your visit during the week.

If the skating trail is full when you arrive, you can make your way to one of the many family-friendly skiing and snowshoeing trails.

You will need your own equipment though, as rentals are not available on-site.

There are cabins and yurts at the park that you can rent for an overnight stay, or you can reserve a spot for your tent or trailer.

The park has a heated comfort station with showers and toilets that you can use during your stay.

MacGregor Point is one of several beautiful ice skating trails around the province.

Starting this month, you can enjoy a torch-lit skate under the stars on a cranberry field in Bala, Ontario.

Better get those skates sharpened, friends. It’s time to hit the ice!
