The dazzling Lyrids Meteor Shower will soon be visible over Canada

Still riding your solar eclipse high? Get ready, because yet another celestial event will take place this month!

This April, the Lyrids Meteor Shower will be visible over Canada and if you’re lucky enough to see a clear evening, you could be in for quite the show!

Known for producing the occasional fireball and up to 20 ‘shooting stars’ an hour, this particular event has been observed for 2,700 years and is a spring favourite.

“The Lyrids are best viewed in the Northern Hemisphere during the dark hours (after moonset and before dawn),” explains NASA.

“Come prepared with a sleeping bag, blanket, or lawn chair. Lie flat on your back with your feet facing east and look up, taking in as much of the sky as possible. After about 30 minutes in the dark, your eyes will adapt and you will begin to see meteors.”

They also recommend leaving the city behind to avoid light pollution.

If you’re looking for something to do this spring, this mesmerizing display will run from April 15th to April 29th, 2024; Though if you want to guarantee a memorable experience, we’d recommend checking it out during the peak on the 22nd.
