As we near January’s mid-point, it’s almost that time again! The Lunar New Year is upon us, Calgary and 2023 is going to be bigger and better than ever! From festivals and galas to concerts and more, here are just a few of the very best things you can do to celebrate the year the rabbit!

2023 LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION CONCERT 

An event a year in the making, the University’s 2023 Lunar New Year Celebration will feature the world premieres of 12 new compositions by Vincent Ho and BMus’98 – all of which will be performed by alumni and students of their piano program. Witness how these magical character pieces come alive on stage for the very first time for FREE on January 22nd.

CHINESE NEW YEAR FESTIVAL 

Featuring dragon and lion dances, martial arts, demonstrations, singers and so much more – Calgary’s Chinese Cultural Centre is back with its huge Lunar New Year festival. Check it out and enjoy!

RAMS LUNAR NEW YEAR SOCIAL

Hoping to eat your way into the year of the Rabbit? Enjoy an extravagant 10-course new year’s dinner at the RAMS Lunar New Year Social. Here you can have a glass of wine, compete to win prizes, watch performances and more.

When: Saturday, January 28th

WE WERE HERE & LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS AT HERITAGE PARK

Meant to “tell the diverse stories of the Chinese community in early Western Canadian history,” Heritage Park’s newest exhibit will open to the public on January 14th in conjunction with its Lunar New Year’s celebration. On Saturday, January 14th Calgarians are welcome to visit the park where traditional dancers and local musicians will be performing live in addition to wandering the meaningful display.
