Climb up a 30 ft. lookout tower at this Ontario park with spectacular views

Here’s another Ontario adventure to add to your bucket list, and it includes stunning scenic views, a series of drumlins, and a bit of a history lesson. Take a trip down to Sager Conservation Area and explore the beautiful sights, especially during the fall season.

Located about two hours east of Toronto is Sager Conservation Area, a place that’s perfect for picnics, trekking along hiking trails, and venturing atop a scenic lookout that towers over 30 ft.

According to Lower Trent Conservation, the area is “part of a glacial feature known as Oak Lake Island, a series of large drumlins that formed an island in glacial Lake Iroquois. ”

What are drumlins?

Drumlins are oval or elongated hills that are believed to have been formed by the streamlined movement of glacial ice sheets across rock debris, or till, according to Britannica.

The drumlin in this conservation area is one of the highest points in the surrounding land. You can get a great view of the surrounding countryside and part of the Trent River valley.

But for a stellar sightseeing experience, embark on a short 1 km trail.

This trail begins at the base of the hill and climbs up a 30 ft. lookout tower. You’ll experience the best panoramic views!

“There’s a total of 97 steps on the trail plus another 48 steps on the tower – a bit of a hike, but the view is worth it,” shares the LTC.

“Once you reach the top, interpretive signs tell a story about some of the natural and cultural features of the area.”

There’s no fee to explore Sager Conservation Area, but you may be subject to parking fees.
