It’s almost lilac season here in our province and we know just the place to visit if you want to make the most of it. There’s a gorgeous lilac trail in Ontario that you absolutely have to visit this spring.
Located 90 minutes outside of Toronto in the town of Warkworth, an annual lilac festival is set to return in late May.
As is tradition during the festival, a gorgeous trail featuring over 300 lilacs will spring up in the town for visitors to fully enjoy these fragrant purple blooms.
The Warkworth Lilac Festival takes place on the Millennium Lilac Trail, which has 65 different varieties of rare and magnificent lilacs.
Last year, the festival introduced the ‘Avalanche’ double-white lilac, created in honor of the Queen’s 70th Platinum Jubilee.
Every spring, visitors from all over the province flock to this quaint and sophisticated town in the rolling hills of Northumberland County.

“Many rare and beautiful lilacs of unique varieties have been planted strategically in beds along the trail turning it into a showcase of lilacs for all to delight in,” says the festival.
The 2.6-km wheelchair-accessible trail is the main draw of both the town and the festival, offering panoramic views of the hills, tree canopies, valleys, and surrounding flora.
While you wander among the lilacs in bloom, you will also have the opportunity to shop for products from local vendors, enjoy live music, taste delicious food, and participate in fun activities for the whole family.
Once you’ve had a chance to explore the lilac trail, you can make your way to the Village of Warkworth’s Main Street, lined with shops, restaurants, and cafes.
This event is just one of many beautiful flower festivals to explore around the province this spring.
