A top-secret, luxury picnic party is happening in Calgary & this is the only way you can get tickets

Cloaked in white fabric, we cannot be trusted – but if you’re coordinated and have mastered the art of spaghetti etiquette, mark your calendars because Le Diner en Blanc will be returning to Calgary this August!

A ‘top secret’ event for the city’s elite, this decked-out experience is held all over the world, from Paris to New York, Hong Kong, Toronto, Washington, DC and for the 9th year on record – right here in Calgary.

Founded in 1988 by François Pasquier, Le Diner en Blanc is notoriously high-brow and has been considered pretty restrictive by some.

Unlike most dinner parties, guests can’t simply RSVP – plus there’s a pretty strict dress code, guests are required to bring their own table settings (as outlined here) and only champagne and wine are permitted.

Not only is everyone required to wear white, but getting a ticket to Dine En Blanc can only be done in one of the following three ways:

Be members from the previous year or make friends with someone in the organization
Get ‘sponsored’ by one of their guests
Sign up for their waiting list and hope for the best

Invites are given out in different phases, with those who have previously attended getting priority. Second, those who have been recommended will get an email, then, lastly, those who have signed up on their website here will be on the receiving end.

Think you can just skip the line and head straight to the party? Well, here’s the catch! Every year, the location of the event will not be revealed until the last minute and won’t be announced to anyone that doesn’t already have a ticket – so good luck, rule breakers.

Luckily, if you do get tipped off, this event will happen rain or shine – which is incredibly reassuring after the last few weeks we’ve just had.

Don’t eat anything with a red sauce. The universe doesn’t take kindly to being mocked and there’s nothing more insulting than a person dressed head to toe in an absence of colour eating a notoriously stain-prone food.
