In case you forgot, it’s a long weekend. That means it’s time to stretch your legs and take it outdoors. Whether you’re walking, biking, or blading you’re going to want to head over to Lake Washington Boulevard because it’s going to be all yours to enjoy. That’s right, the Seattle Department of Transportation is shutting the road to car traffic this weekend.
This closure is part of the Stay Healthy Streets program which creates more space for people to get outside safely and has been a game-changer during the pandemic. This means Lake Washington Blvd from Mt Baker Park to Genesee Park will be open to people walking, rolling, and biking this weekend. What’s even better is that it looks like this will be here to stay for summer at least.

SDOT also announced that they would be closing the same stretch of road on most weekends throughout the summer. This means you’ll be able to enjoy this mile of the road even if you can’t make it this weekend. We have to say we would love to see this become a permanent part of the city as it’s been so much fun to explore without a car. After all, that view alone is worth a walk.
If you’d like to learn more about Stay Healthy Streets or contribute your thoughts on the future of the program you can click here. If you can, be sure to get out there this weekend and enjoy the outdoors. As always, if you do get out there, take some pics and be sure to tag us in them.
