Step inside a new Toronto art exhibition serving intergalactic vibes

Get ready to go intergalactic, Toronto!

From now until Dec. 14, Koffler Arts is hosting contemporary artist Tracey Snelling for her Canadian debut with INTERGALACTIC PLANETARY — an exhibition that’s part global journey, part cosmic daydream, and best of all, completely free to experience.

Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a colourful, immersive, and very Instagrammable environment that blurs the line between reality and imagination. Here’s what to expect.

When worlds collide

This isn’t your typical gallery experience. Snelling brings together sculpture, photography, video, and installation for a dazzling mashup of different worlds, geographies, and perspectives.

It’s a nod to global (or maybe even galactic) unity, highlighting that despite all the noise and division, we’re a lot more alike than we think.

Fun fact: The exhibition’s title is actually a nod to the Beastie Boys song of the same name, a track the artist listened to in her youth, setting the tone for a show that’s just as fun and playful as it is profound.

Snelling has drawn inspiration from cities like Shanghai, Berlin, Tokyo, and Bangkok to create this visual and sonic symphony that captures the chaos, humour, and beauty of human connection. The result? Visitors will feel like they’re wandering through multiple cities — and dimensions — all at once!

Leave with a new perspective

The entire exhibition evokes the feeling of zooming out and invites the viewer to see the world through a wider lens.

“Through this work, I ask: how can we move beyond our fears, borders, and egos to become more humane?” Snelling says. “Perhaps by staying curious, open, and willing to see each other more fully, we can take a small step toward connection, and even a glimmer of peace for the future.”

Whether you’re an art lover, a curious explorer, or just looking for something fun to do in the city this season, this is one exhibition that promises to leave a lasting impression.

The gallery is also continuously adding public programs for this exhibition — including the upcoming Gallery Talk & City Stroll, where writer Shawn Micallef will connect the themes in INTERGALACTIC PLANETARY to Toronto’s neighbourhoods and streetscapes.
