There’s an iconic wilderness landscape of pink granite & sapphire lakes at this Ontario park

There’s an iconic 645 square kilometre wilderness landscape waiting to be explored! Killarney Provincial Park is popular for good reason. The area is dripping in stunning landscapes including the wild Georgian Bay Coast of pink granite and over 50 sapphire lakes.

Getting there

If you’re driving from Toronto it will take you around five hours but the views along the way are half the adventure.

Once you arrive at the park you will need to pay a day-use fee which starts at $12.25 per vehicle.

Exploring

Now comes the fun part!

You’re going to want to make sure you pack shoes for walking on uneven grounds as the park has some rocky terrain to navigate.

Start your day by exploring some of the sapphire lakes! There are over 50 so if you need help narrowing them down, these are considered to be some of the most beautiful: O.S.A. Lake, Nellie Lake, Topaz Lake, Balsam Lake and Killarney Lake.

The La Cloche Mountains’ white quartzite ridges can also be explored.

The Crack Trail is a difficult hike but along the way, you’ll see some of the most captivating views.

The white cliffs of the La Cloche Mountains will surround you as you “ascend through the cascade of huge tumbled boulders” of what is known as”The Crack”.

The top of the ridge showcases panoramic vistas on all sides – gorgeous.

The Granite Ridge trail is where you’ll spot some of the pink granite. This hike is moderate and 2 km in length. You’ll still be able to see the La Cloche Mountains as you wind through old fields and forests and eventually get to a ridge with two lookouts over the park.

Now, picture all these views while the leaves are changing during fall. Yep, we’re sold!

Will you be making a trip to Killarney Provincial Park this autumn, Ontario?
