A visit to a life-sized gingerbread village in Alberta will make your holidays extra sweet

Looking for an adventure this holiday season? Look no further than the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge in Alberta which will be even more whimsical this winter.

Alberta’s sweet spot

Located in Kananaskis Village at the base of Mount Kidd about an hour southwest of Calgary, this enchanting destination has dropped its Christmas programming for 2024-2025—and has even announced that they’re getting a bit of a makeover.

“The Lodge is transforming into a lifesize gingerbread village with a ton of exciting events and activities for both families and adults,” they told Curiocity, adding that guests can enjoy train rides through the village, visits with Santa, festive cocktail classes, and a magical NYE party with fireworks in the mountains.

With gumdrop buttons and sweet icing swirls, it’s sure to be the cutest place in the Rocky Mountains—but it’ll be much more than front door decor!

According to the lodge, this holly jolly façade will not only include the lodge itself, but also the public spaces around the hotel.

It’s the inside that counts

Too chilly to be outdoors?

There will also be immersive installations inside the hotel where you can take photos or mail a letter to the North Pole.

“Created by local artists Natalia Ionescu, Aly Tucker, Jean Gole, Vanja Kragulj, Kate Beck and the PARK team, the displays will add whimsy to an already stunning mountain setting,” they explain.

“In addition to the gingerbread village, Chef Sebastien Roelly and Pastry Chef Paola Errugola Paz will build an 8-foot replica of the Lodge made completely out of real gingerbread baked in-house. The replica will be displayed in the Lodge throughout the holiday season.”
