“Time to face our fears:” A giant spider installation just appeared in Vancouver & here’s where

Guess what, Vancouver? The city just got a very interesting public art piece – though it’s not very arachnophobe-friendly. If you are a fan of giant bugs (or curious to see one that won’t do you actual harm), you’ll definitely want to check out this new spider sculpture.

The Montreal-based artist behind the large Queen Bee installation in South Vancouver has officially struck again, this time under a bridge near the Commercial-Broadway SkyTrain Station.

Junko Playtime revealed photos of their latest artwork on Instagram on March 16th, with a caption that reads “time to face our fears.”

According to a “behind-the-scenes” post, the spider sculpture was secured using yellow rope and metal chains.

Junko is known across Canada for creating art out of reclaimed materials, according to their Instagram bio. Currently, they also have two giant ant sculptures titled “Habitat,” which were part of the Vancouver Mural Festival’s Winter Arts program.

So if “Phobia” caught your eye and you’re keen on seeing more of their work, you can check out “Habitat” outside of the Bentall Centre Gallery until March 31st.

And there you have it, Vancouver! A giant spider sculpture to give you a scare on your next commute.
