IKEA’s new downtown Toronto location announced its opening date & it has a new food concept

IKEA fans have been waiting over a year for this news, and it’s finally here. IKEA Canada’s downtown Toronto location is set to open this month.

That’s right! The location at the Aura, on the corner of Yonge and Gerrard, is opening on May 25, with grand celebrations kicking off at 9:20 am, and the store opening at 10 am.

According to the major retailer, IKEA Toronto Downtown – Aura “is the first store of its kind in Canada, offering the inspiring IKEA experience that customers are used to, along with new, convenient ways to shop and a unique food experience, all in a small store format.”

The store takes up two floors of the Aura Shopping Centre at 382 Yonge Street.

“The 66,000 sq. ft. shopping destination will include more than 2,000 products for immediate takeaway, while larger furniture items will be on display and available for home delivery,” states IKEA.

They also add that the space will be a cashless store that offers an easy and seamless shopping experience where customers can scan and pay for products using the IKEA app, along with digital tools throughout and multiple checkout lanes available on both levels.

With the new store comes a new food concept called the Swedish Deli, offering modern, healthy meals and speciality beverages to eat in, along with on-the-go food options and sustainably sourced essentials to cook at home. “Customers will be able to enjoy classic Swedish meatballs as well as delicious new recipes that are designed to satisfy the tastes of a diverse Toronto community,” says the brand.

Of note, if you’re heading down during opening week, IKEA will be using a digital queuing system that will be made available soon online. IKEA advises customers to secure a place in line in advance of opening day at IKEA Toronto Downtown – Aura; walk-ups are not guaranteed a place in line.

IKEA Toronto Downtown will be open Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm.
