With another stat holiday just around the corner, we’d be willing to be your hoping to solidify a weekend’s worth of plans – but not without some preparation! This Friday, government employees and shops all over the city will be closing early or just taking the entire day off, so take note, friends, because nothing kills a vibe quicker than a locked door. Here is everything open and closed on Canada Day in Edmonton – for your convenience.
Hoping to catch a flick for Canada Day? Metro Cinema might be closed, but Landmark Cinemas and Cineplex locations across the city will all be open.
Meet us at the mall, it’s going down… In all seriousness, West Edmonton Mall has got a lot to offer for your day off. Sure, there’s shopping, but there’s also the waterpark, the amusement park, and even a little go-karting available!
What’s new at the zoo? Well, in addition to some Canada Day programming and the usual exhibits, you can check out some stunning Lego art as well!
Time to swing the sticks! Edmonton’s municipal golf courses will be open, alongside some driving ranges for those not will to devote 4 hours of their day to getting out.
Want something that requires a little less commitment? Some of the best bowling alleys in the city will be open, whether you’re after 5-pin or 10.
Having a BBQ? Need milk or need to do a last-minute beer run before you head to your campsite? You’re in luck. Though (again) we’d recommend checking your local stops hours, most liquor and grocery stores will be open this Friday.
Science rules! Especially when you get to check out some amazing family friendly exhibitions and then maybe treat yourself to a movie inside the IMAX, or a little light show in the Zeidler Dome.
Hoping for a full day of fun both indoors and out? Fort Edmonton Park is the place to be, offering a mix of midway rides, restaurants, and exhibitions all focused on the history of Alberta!
This Canada Day you will be able to visit several Edmonton museums like the Royal Alberta Museum, the Art Gallery of Alberta, and the Alberta Aviation Museum.
A little Canada Day road trip? Why not! Our first option for those looking to get outta town is the U of A Botanic Garde, which offers hundreds of acres of incredible gardens and make a great choice for a more relaxed day outside.
For those feeling a little more adventurous, then the hikes/walks/lakes at Elk Island are always enticing. Plus, you should know that Parks Canada has made entry free to national parks across the board, saving you money for a nice little ice cream cone or something afterwards.
Sorry, folks – but this Canada Day, all city-owned pools, indoor and outdoor, as well as fitness and rec centres will be closed in lieu of the Stat holiday. Don’t worry though, it won’t be long until they reopen.
Whether it’s an Amazon return or an invitation – it’ll have to wait! This Canada Day (and every stat holiday) the post office will be closed.
While grocery and convenience stores will be open this Friday, Costco will be unshoppable this Friday. Looks like you’ll have to get your massive hot do fix before Canada Day!
From the passport office to the DMV, all government offices will be closed on Canada Day.
But there you have it, friends. Everything that’s open/closed this Canada Day in Edmonton. Please be sure to double-check the hours of operation no matter where you’re headed and enjoy the day! Here’s to sun, fun and family.
