Here’s what happened to the infamous garden at CHOP

If you were in Seattle this summer then you probably remember all of the protests that happened. Specifically CHOP or CHAZ which became known countrywide. And if you had a chance to visit CHOP you probably saw the garden. So here’s where it and one of its creators are today.

Six months later, the CHOP garden is still growing strong despite a fair amount of negative feedback from unenthused Seattleites. In fact, it’s inspired a series of other gardens to pop up in community spaces across the city. So we’d have to say the garden is beyond a success story.

As for the creator Marcus Henderson, he’s being honored by Sustainable Seattle next month. And he’s created a collective of urban agriculture organizers called the Black Star Farmers. What’s even cooler about this is that the group grew out of the volunteers who helped create the CHOP garden.

We’re very happy that the garden is flourishing and that Henderson’s influence is spreading around the city. If you’d like to learn more about this story you can click here.
