With the year coming to an end, we’re all wondering what’s what, who’s who, and how our favourite songs, movies, and companies fared in 2021. List after list, the picture becomes more clear but it just wouldn’t be complete without Rover.com’s annual rundown of Toronto’s most popular pet names.
While the top picks usually change from year to year, they are also a reflection of current trends, pop culture, and the world around them. Luckily, ‘Rona’ didn’t crack the list, but the most popular pet names in Toronto for 2021 do have an interesting variety.

To start, the top 5 male dog names were as follows.
1. Milo
2. Leo
3. Charlie
4. Max
5. Teddy
Then we have the top 5 female dog names.
1. Luna
2. Bella
3. Coco
4. Daisy
5. Lola
Next up are the top 5 female cat names.
1. Luna
2. Lola
3. Bella
4. Sophie
5. Daisy
And last but not least, the top 5 male cat names.
1. Oliver
2. Oscar
3. Leo
4. Simba
5. Finn
Clearly, there’s a fair amount of overlap with names like Leo, Luna, Bella, and Daisy showing up on both lists. Now there are also two other names you should keep an eye out for, Pluto is a big trending dog name (+808%) and Olive is a big trending cat name (+449%). So if you’re anticipating a new four-legged friend soon, maybe these names will help give you some ideas.
