Edmonton’s Hawrelak Park is finally reopening after three years

It’s finally time… Hawrelak Park is reopening today.

Edmonton’s Hawrelak Park is reopening after three years of construction, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Although there will still be construction as the City puts finishing touches on this rehabilitation project, you can still enjoy it thoroughly. With parks, washroom shelters, biking paths, multi-use trails, and more, it’s the place to be this spring and summer.

This park is massive, no question about it. Spanning across 68 hectares, it offers more than just River Valley views. Hawrelak Park has wide‑open meadows, shady picnic spots and a five‑hectare lake. Here, you can find an extensive, accessible paved pathway system perfect for walking and cycling year-round, even a lakefront walkway to enjoy the scenery.

Not to mention all the fabulous new amenities, like a brand-new playground, as well as upgrades like renovated picnic shelters, drop-in picnic sites, and an upgraded Heritage Amphitheatre. In terms of the picnic sites, there are four reservable sites and 30 drop-in sites, with some winterized for the season.

For a full list of all the upgrades, you can visit the City of Edmonton’s website and check out Hawrelak Park for more information.

Whether you’re going with the kids or taking a peaceful stroll by yourself, this Edmonton park reopening opens a lot of doors. To make your visit even more accessible, this park features paved parking lots for easy access as well as year-round washrooms.

The official grand reopening is scheduled for May 30 of this year, so mark your calendars, folks! You’re going to want to be there when the park’s facilities are in full swing.

Bundle up and enjoy the weather in the cold, or just wait for spring to be in full effect. Either way, it’s going to be a good time.
