Goodbye Pier 58, here’s a peek at Seattle’s upcoming Waterfront Park

It was sad news last year when we all learned that Pier 58 was no longer safe for use. Seattle’s favorite waterfront park has been around for 46 years and its closure was a huge loss to the city. But yesterday the removal of the old Pier 58 was completed. And now, we’re getting the pier back, here’s what it’s going to look like.

The new and improved Waterfront Park will feature amenities like restrooms and a visitors center space next to the main promenade. Additionally, visitors will be able to enjoy a playground, an elevated seating area with scenic views, a large lawn, and outdoor event space. And if you’re wondering, the old park’s fountain will be reinstalled.

The entrance to the park will feature three figures made by a local artist from the Puyallup tribe and there are also some pretty cool things that visitors won’t be able to see. Namely the piers design which will help improve the salmon habitat and migration corridor. So we have to say we’re pretty dang excited to see how the project unfolds.

Now the timeline is still being finalized but the design should be mostly complete by this summer. And construction is scheduled to start late next year with a build time of about two years.
