Love hitting the beach during summer? Might want to take note that two Seattle beaches, Golden Gardens and Alki Beach, will reduce their hours this summer. Here’s why and what you should know.
Seattle Parks and Recreation has made the decision to enact a second phase pilot shortening the hours at Golden Gardens and Alki Beach during the 2023 summer months for public safety.
The measure will help address “dangerous and/or illegal behavior typical of summer evening uses.” The decision comes after both public input, nearby community complaints and recent incidences.

The new, daily shortened hours are from 4 AM-10:30 PM, daily park closure will be enforced with assistance from SPD.
These hours will be in place between May 26th and September 3rd and will return to 4 AM–11:30 PM after September 4th.
Keep in mind that this is a pilot program and the success of the hours will be reviewed at a Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners after summer to help determine the best operating hours for the public. The review will be informed by public comments from a questionnaire, which you are able to contribute to.
While the news may be a bit of a bummer to some, it is ultimately for the greater good. And in some happier news, designated fire pits will be available for beach fires this summer beginning on Saturday, May 29th.
