12 free and cheap things to do in Edmonton this October

Happy October, Edmonton! We are nearing the end of 2023 (woah!!), and perhaps it’s also time we start saving for the holidays. And that is not a problem around here, because we have rounded up the best free and cheap things to do in Edmonton this month! From family events, to Halloween festivities, you have some options this October!

Haunted Pumpkin Festival

The Haunted Pumpkin Festival at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm kicks off on the first weekend of October and is on until the end of the month! You can check out this spooky outing to the pumpkin patch where you will find a Pumpkin Cannon (really!), a ghost town with Ghost Walks to the Elm Street Cemetery, and if you are brave – don a mask to creep through the Haunted Farm House. Save $5 when you get your tickets online!

When: Every weekend until October 31st, 2023

Outdoor Autumn Night Market

Get ready to cozy up by the fire under the stars at a night market! The Outdoor Autumn Night Market is taking place this October and you can explore over 10 vendors, and sip on warm and comforting apple cider.

When: Friday, October 6th, 2023

Cost: Free

The Original Edmonton Witches Market ~Halloween Edition

Love markets? Check out the Original Edmonton Witches Market’s Halloween editition with over 40 vendors, workshops, and a cafe. There will be trick or treating for kids too!

When: Saturday, October 7th, and Sunday, October 8th, 2023

Old Strathcona Ghost Tours

There’s a ghostly walk through Old Strathcona this month that is sure to give you a chill! The tour stops in front of the Strathcona Hotel, the Princess Theatre, the Strathcona High School and many other buildings, houses, and shops that have reported ghosts, hauntings, murders, and mysteries.

Litfest

LitFest is back in Edmonton with 11-days celebrating all things nonfiction! There are author readings, workshops, and live performances. There are ticketed and  free events throughout different venues.

The Wildlife Festival

Really want to see a sloth or hug a boa constrictor? Perhaps you want to pet a Wallaroo or check out the world’s largest porcupine!  The Wildlife Festival debuts in Edmonton in October!

When: Friday, October 13th until Sunday, October 15th, 2023

Spruce Ridge Scare

Get ready to be spooked, every weekend this October! Spruce Ridge Scare is a family owned and built Haunted House located at #287 Spruce Ridge rd. in Spruce Grove! The family charges either $5 a person (a donation for men’s health), or one non-perishable food donation per person (for the parkland food bank).

When: Every Friday to Sunday starting Friday, October 13th to 31st, 2023

Cost: $5 or a non-perishable food item

Boo at the Zoo!

This one is for the whole fam! Explore the zoo’s not-so-scary festivities with magical guest characters, all while trick-or-treating at stops throughout the zoo.

When: Over two weekends: October 21st, 22nd,and 28th, 29th, 2023

Halloween Night Market
