This Alberta airport was named among the ‘most enjoyable in North America’

Located north of Edmonton, Fort McMurray is a charming town with towering trees, a clear night sky and an award-winning airport!

According to Airports Council International (ACI), the municipality had one of the most beloved places in North America to catch a flight last year, impressing folks from around the world and right here in Alberta.

While it may not be the busiest airport on our side of the pond, it was named the best of the best in four categories as part of a new survey conducted by the organization.

“We are delighted that in 2023 the ASQ program surpassed 400 participating airports in a historical record—reflecting our members’ commitment to placing the passenger first,” said ACI World Director General Luis Felipe de Oliveira.

“Likewise, we thank the guests that dedicated their precious time by providing feedback in close to 600,000 surveys. The global growth of the program underscores the trust placed in its scientific and live approach, making ASQ the go-to standard for airport customer experience assessment in the aviation industry.”

So where did the Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) place this time around?

Not only were they honoured in the “under 2 million passengers per year” slot, but they also snagged awards for easiest airport journey, cleanest airport, and most enjoyable airport in North America.

“The future success of airports hinges on the unwavering commitment to delivering a stellar customer experience at every touchpoint. In an era where passenger expectations are evolving rapidly, excellence in customer service isn’t just a goal,” the de Oliveria explains.

“It’s the key to ensuring airports remain not just gateways, but memorable destinations in themselves.”

Other Canadian destinations that were honoured? Toronto Pearson and Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport, which was named alongside YMM in the ‘under 2 million’ bracket.

Who would have thought? Great job Fort Mac!

Colour us impressed.
