This national park in Quebec is known for its steep cliffs & sandy beaches

Looking for some sandy beaches to explore in Quebec before summer’s end? Forillon National Park is a truly remarkable spot for beachgoers and adventurers alike, situated on the scenic Gaspe Peninsula.

Covering 244 square kilometres, the national park has plenty of rugged coastlines to discover, created over thousands of years of erosion. In terms of activities, visitors can explore the region’s boreal forest on foot via one of the park’s numerous hikes, swim or paddle at one of its sandy beaches, or go scuba diving or whale-watching at one of the park’s sea excursions.

Camping & glamping

Campers have over 350 semi-serviced front-country sites to choose from, in addition to backcountry campsites along the Les Crêtes and Les Lacs trails. While the majority are tent-friendly, there are two “lean-to” shelters with three walls, which make it possible to camp sans tent.

Note that a maximum of three tents and 12 people apply to each backcountry site.

As well, those looking to stay overnight can set up at reservable oTENTiks (comes with beds, propane BBQs, camping gear), two-person micrOcubes, or splurge on a stay in one of the tear-drop-shaped “Oasis” duplexes ($128 per night).

During the winter, visitors can stay in two to six-person yurts or tiny houses, the latter of which are accessible via a 3.7km hike with snowshoes or cross-country skis.

History buffs can relive the area’s historical heritage at the Hyman & Sons General Store, Blanchette House, and Dolbel-Roberts House, and more.

Visitors can also tour the park via quadricycles, which include a round-trip cycle to the tip of the peninsula.
