This massive new footbridge will connect Edmonton and Strathcona County

Outdoors enthusiasts, we’ve got some great news for you! This week, a plan was finalized for a massive new footbridge connecting the City of Edmonton to Strathcona County. The plan has been in the works since December of 2020, and will make the North Saskatchewan River Valley easier than ever to explore.

The footbridge is expected to cost some $41.1 million. Half of the total cost will be covered by the River Valley Alliance, while the City of Edmonton and Strathcona County will split the other half. Construction is set to begin later this year, and is expected to be complete by 2024.

The bridge will connect 167 Avenue in Edmonton to Township Road 540 in Strathcona County. It will also provide easy access to the Riverside Nature Trail, which is a hub for a vast array of trails in the area. As an extra bonus, it will also fit into the Trans-Canada Trail. You know, just in case a serious walkabout is in the cards for you.

Of course, we’ll keep you updated on any major developments that may happen! In the meanwhile, we’ve got something new in the city to look forward to!
