Beautiful flower festivals happening in Ontario this spring

It’s almost time to smell the flowers here in Ontario! Spring has officially arrived, which means that the season of flower festivals in Ontario is upon us.

From rows of rare and fragrant lilacs to colourful peonies and tulips, there is no shortage of spring blooms to see in our province.

Here are the very best flower festivals in Ontario to look forward to this spring.

Canadian Tulip Festiva in Ottawa

From May 12th to the 22nd, The Candian Tulip Festival will take place in Ottawa’s Commissioners Park where Canadians can feast their eyes on stunning displays of blooming tulips.

The annual event features 300,000 tulips gifted from the Netherlands, that trail over a kilometer of parkland on the shores of Dow’s Lake in Ottawa, according to the event.

The festival is absolutely free but if you work up an appetite, there will be food trucks to discover and a tulip boutique on-site.

Warkworth Lilac Festival

Located just 90 minutes east of Toronto in the charming town of Warkworth, this annual celebration of lilacs draws visitors from around the province.

Rare and beautiful lilacs will be on display along Millennium Lilac Trail, and visitors will be delighted by the unique displays of these fragrant spring flowers.

There will also be a variety of vendors, children’s activities, musicians and food service on site.

Oshawa Peony Festival

This late-spring festival is a popular attraction in the GTA city of Oshawa.

In addition to gorgeous colourful peony displays, this event will have artisan and handmade vendors, food service, and a peony display contest.

Sakura Cherry Blossoms in High Park

The Japanese sakura trees in Toronto’s west-end nature oasis of High Park typically bloom in late April or early May.

This is the busiest time of the year at this popular park, thanks to the magical blooming trees that create a canopy of pink petals for all to enjoy.

While it may not be your traditional festival, this experience is actually a centries-old tradition called hanami, which is the Japanese term for flower viewing.
