Are you ready to hit the outdoors but not sure where to start? This Ontario park is one to explore. It’s not only home to a century-old White Pine forest but it offers a beginner-friendly hiking experience and two beaches to cool off. Here’s what to know about Fitzroy Provincial Park.

If you love a long road trip, then this may be up your alley. A little over four hours away from Toronto, north of Ottawa is Fitzroy Provincial Park.

Known for its family camping park with large campsites, this Ontario gem is a stellar spot for those looking to explore the outdoors.

According to Ontario Parks, this outdoor oasis is home to a century-old White Pine forest and a stand of 200-year-old Bur Oak.

You can explore the grounds through two beginner-friendly hiking trails – Carp Trail which guides you along the Carp River and Terraces Trail.

This one takes visitors along a geological journey where they can see “shale pillars that stand as testaments to the erosive power of water and fields that are strewn with erratics – massive boulders left by glaciers,” according to Ontario Parks.

Need to cool off? You can make your way to the main beach which is located in the day-use area. If you’re staying for a camping experience, you can dip your toes in the camper’s beach located in Two Rivers Campground.

The park has over 200 campsites in two campgrounds; Pine Grove and Two Rivers. Considering it’s a long drive, you may want to book a night stay. There are some electrical sites available in each campground including large group campsites that can accommodate 50 to 100 visitors, according to Ontario Parks.

Fee

According to Ontario Parks, the cost of a Day Use permit depends on the time of the year whether it be on or off-season, and by park.

Entry fees for vehicles start at $12.25, but for a full day at Fitzroy Provincial Park in the summer season, the cost is $15.93 plus tax. For park-specific fees, contact the park directly.
