Campgrounds near Edmonton that are still open for fall camping

The leaves are starting to turn and the air has a decided bite, but that doesn’t deter the most seasoned of Alberta campers! So we are pleased to report that there are still plenty of spots open for fall camping near Edmonton.

Sure, you could always opt for a place with cozy cabins and the rest of your creature comforts. But if you’re well prepared – and maybe a little crazy – we’ve got the list for you.

Here are 5 spots still open for fall camping around Edmonton.

Wabamun Lake Campground

You’ll find this large campground in the lovely Wabamun Lake Provincial Park. There are about 275 treed sites here, including unserviced sites and power sites that you can book online until Wednesday, October 30th. You’ll find trails for hiking and biking and a large beach and waterfront, although we think it’s a bit cold for swimming right now.

Pigeon Lake Campground

Pigeon Lake Provincial Park offers spacious sites surrounded by trees for tents and RVs for year-round camping. Throughout the winter, there are 10 powered camping sites available at a reduced rate which are regularly plowed by staff for easy access during the colder months. Camping after September 22nd is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Miquelon Lake Campground

Miquelon Lake Provincial Park is part of the Beaver Hills Dark Sky Preserve and a great spot to do some spectacular fall stargazing. Winter camping is available after Thanksgiving on Monday, October 14th on a first-come, first-served basis.

Carson-Pegasus Campground

Located in Carson-Pegasus Provincial Park this large campground has lakeside sites, RV, and tent-only sites, with lots of trees and a playground and beach nearby. There’s fishing, swimming, hiking, and bird watching in the warmer months, or snowshoeing and ice fishing in winter. Campsites are first-come, first-served after September 15th.

Crimson Lake Campground

Crimson Lake Provincial Park offers year-round camping just 14 km west of Rocky Mountain House. This spot offers lots of trails for hiking, mountain biking, or skiing. There are 33 winterized sites available on a first-come, first-served basis from September 25th until May 9th.
