One of the most fascinating aspects of Fairbank Provincial Park is its geological significance.
The park lies on the very edge of the Sudbury Basin, an ancient meteorite impact crater formed 1.8 billion years ago, according to Ontario Parks.
Geologists estimate that the crater was once as wide as 200 km, but erosion over time has reduced it to its current size of 60 km long and 30 km wide!
One of the main attractions of Fairbank Provincial Park is the stunning Fairbank Lake.
This spring-fed has crystal-clear waters and the buoyed beach is perfect for swimming.
With its picturesque surroundings of rolling forested hills, Fairbank Lake truly lives up to its name.

Visitors can rent canoes from the park or bring their own watercraft to explore the lake’s many bays.
The park’s hiking trail takes you on a scenic journey, passing through rock barrens and forests, before descending to the lake shore.
For camping enthusiasts, Fairbank Provincial Park offers a well-equipped campground with 63 electrical and 49 non-electrical campsites.
Some of the waterfront sites even allow campers to launch their canoes or kayaks right from their campsite.
The campground features a comfort station with amenities such as flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry facilities.
Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, explore the lake by canoe, or immerse yourself in the park’s geological history, this spot has it all.
