This Ontario park has dozens of kettle lakes formed 10,000 years ago

Ontario is full of nature activities that are perfect for the summer season. And since we only have a few more weeks of this hot weather (sad), it’s time to head out and explore your beautiful province. That being said, if you’re itching for a sand beach, hiking trails, and sightseeing, Esker Lakes Provincial Park is the place to be.

This is not a day trip experience considering it’s about seven hours away, north of Toronto but it is a trip worth committing to. According to Ontario Parks, Esker Lakes is a “pleasant, family-oriented park with small lakes for canoeing and fishing, trails for hiking, sandy beaches, and a full range of campground facilities.”

What makes this park stand out is its dozens of kettle lakes that were formed when glaciers retreated 10,000 years ago. And you can find these within the park.

If you’re here for a hiking experience, there are four trails to choose from, three of them are considered easy, and the fourth takes about four hours to complete. In total, there are over 12 km of trails to enjoy.

Once you’re done your exciting adventure, you can enjoy the day on one of the two beach areas. One is located in the day-use area and the other in the campground.

Fee

According to Ontario Parks, the cost of a Day Use permit depends on the time of the year whether it be on or off-season, and by park. As for Esker Lakes Provincial Park, the Daily Vehicle Permit is priced at $12.25 after tax.

For more park-specific fees, contact the park directly.
