The Edmonton Blues Festival returns to the city this weekend

Following a multi-year hiatus, the Edmonton Blues Festival will be coming back to Hawrelak Park, and it’s pulling out all the stops for the return! Not only that, but this could be the last time we get to experience it at the longtime venue for another few years… Here’s what to know.

After cancelling the festival in 2020, and opting for a hybrid/livestreamed model last year, the 2022 instalment will be a full-throated return to the festival’s glory. Kicking off on Friday, the festival will host over a dozen musicians, featuring both local and international talent.

Even if you’re not a diehard fan of the blues, we still think it’s a good idea to go. As you may already know, the City of Edmonton plans to rehabilitate Hawrelak Park starting in 2023, which could mean a full closure for up to 3 years. That includes the Heritage Amphitheatre, which the festival has called home since it started back in 1999.

So yeah, this is a once-in-a-half-decade opportunity to check out one of Edmonton’s most beloved music festivals. If you’re looking for some fun this weekend, we can’t recommend it enough!

Edmonton Blues Festival

When: Friday, August 19th to Sunday, August 21st
Where: Heritage Amphitheatre, William Hawrelak Park
Cost: $60+ for GA
