You can buy this entire Swiss-inspired village in BC for less than a Toronto penthouse

Dreaming of some new digs? We can do you one better. Located on the outskirts of Golden in British Columbia, the abandoned hamlet of Edelweiss is up for sale right now, awaiting a new owner – and it could be you.

Built in 1910 for a group of experienced Swiss guides hired to tackle and maintain the nearby trails, this once bustling community consists of 6 Alpine-style lodges modelled after traditional European chalets.

If we didn’t know any better, it would be difficult to gauge levels of activity in the area, considering the exterior of these buildings look like they’re still in pretty good shape – but that shouldn’t come as a total surprise! The buildings have all since have been renovated to better house modern residents and are totally habitable.

In fact, it wasn’t the buildings themselves that drove people away.

Instead, it was the difficulty of getting supplies to and from the community. Edelweiss is on pretty steep terrain – and hiking with groceries? Well, that’s not for everyone.

However, this is also what makes the area so notable.

It’s got a lot of character – and for this reason, historians are hoping that whoever buys this 50-acre plot of land, preserves its uniqueness and charm – but it’ll cost em’!

If you’re interested in owning an entire hamlet – the abandoned village of Edelweiss, British Columbia is on sale for $2.3 million CAD, which is actually cheaper than some penthouse apartments in Toronto or Vancouver.
