This hidden park near Toronto has small islands connected by bridges

It finally feels like summer out there, and if you’re craving an escape from the busy city, we’d highly recommend checking out Dufferin Islands Nature Area.

This hidden gem nature park is located just 90 minutes outside of the city in the heart of Niagara Falls.

Nestled in the Niagara River, this tranquil park consists of century-old small islands connected by bridges, winding walkways, and footpaths with lush greenery and wildlife that create a serene atmosphere.

One of the main attractions of Dufferin Islands Park is its beautifully landscaped gardens.

The secluded park is home to a variety of plant species that bloom throughout the year, including colorful flowers, shrubs, and trees.

Visitors can take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, enjoying the fragrant scents and admiring the vibrant colors.

The park also has many picnic tables where you can enjoy some tasty bites from the nearby Table Rock Market.

The islands at this park are actually man-made. The geography of the park was shaped by the construction of the Ontario Power Generating (OPG) Station in the early 1900s.

The fill from the construction of the power station’s inner and outer forebays and tunnels was used to create new islands, according to Niagara Parks.

The OPG Station closed in 1999 and was transformed into the peaceful escape that it is today.

In the colder months, Dufferin Islands Park transforms into a winter wonderland as part of the annual Winter Festival of Lights.

The park is illuminated with millions of twinkling lights from November to January, creating a magical atmosphere.

Once you’ve spent the day soaking up the sun and surroundings at Dufferin Islands, you can head to the Falls for a free nightly fireworks show from May to October.
