Downtown Van is hosting its first-ever inclusive fashion show & here’s what we know

Fashion lovers, here’s something that will likely brighten up your day. Downtown Vancouver BIA is hosting its first-ever inclusive fashion show, Rose & Thorn. And from what we know of it so far, it seems to be 50 shades of awesome.

On August 12 from 5 PM – 8 PM, Robson Square will transform into a glam runway giving off serious Fashion Week vibes. Keeping the ambience in sync with the season, the runway will see a beautiful line-up of pink florals.

Walking down this pretty runway will be models donning local LGBTQ2IAS+ and BIPOC designers like Project Runway alum Carlie Wong, mental health advocates Thirty-Seven East and unisex apparel line Pattern Nation. The iconic VANCITY ORIGINAL® Varsity Jackets by popular streetwear legend, Dipt Kicks, will also make an appearance.

In all, the runway will feature nine local designers and three popular Downtown Van retailers.

As informed by Nolan Marshall III, President and CEO of Downtown Van, the line-up consists of “inclusive designers that advocate for mental health awareness to ungendered streetwear suitable for all body types.”

Now, if you’re hoping to snag a seat F-ROW, get there early. There’s going to be limited seating available on a first-come basis. There will be a lot of standing room for guests though. And you can catch the runway action on the giant digital displays put up for the occasion.

To make matters even more exciting, there will be tons of other activations and performances to keep us thoroughly entertained. Expect a Drag performance by Thanks Jem, Vogue & Ballroom by Van Vogue Jam, live music from local artist Sadé Awele and a dance performance by Brotha Jason and Tony Ramirez.

And like most Downtown VAN BIA events, this one too is free to attend. Meaning we get to enjoy a healthy dose of fashion without having to kill our wallets.
Long story short, Rose & Thorn is going to be one helluva fashion event. And we for one, aren’t missing it for the world!
