You can speed down a winding go-kart track in Calgary this spring

If your idea of fun involves adrenaline, speed, and a little bit of chaos, there is an outdoor experience in Calgary that will be right up your alley.

Downhill Karting by Skyline Luge Calgary is set to reopen for the 2026 season this May, offering a gravity-powered go-karting ride where you can control the pace from start to finish.

On the track

Downhill Karting is basically a gravity-powered ride where you get into a wheeled go-kart and control your own way down the track. According to Skyline Luge, it is suitable for all ages and skill levels, so you don’t necessarily need to be a thrill seeker to try it, but you can definitely pick up the pace if you want to.

The track is over 1,800 metres long, and has over 50 twists and turns, all set on a continuous downhill path. There is no engine or fixed speed, so you are in full control the entire time.

Once you get going, it’s pretty easy to see why people end up doing it more than once. The mix of speed, control, and being outdoors makes it the perfect spring activity.

What to know before you go

Downhill Karting will open for the 2026 season on Saturday, May 16, making it the perfect way to kick off spring.

This experience does require a bit of planning ahead, so there are a few things to know before you go.

According to Skyline Luge, the Downhill Karting experience operates on a timed-entry system, so booking is required. It’s recommended to book early, as weekend slots often sell out 24 to 48 hours in advance.

Most ticket options include several runs down the track, allowing you to ride more than once and get comfortable with the experience.

In terms of timing, each run takes about 20 to 30 minutes round-trip, depending on how busy it is. It is also recommended to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Helmets will be included with the experience to ensure everything remains safe.

Honestly, this is not the kind of thing you just “try once and leave.” You’ll go in thinking it will be chill, and the next thing you know, you’re racing down the hill like it’s the Olympics.
