Discover your wild side at the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary

Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary welcomes visitors to come and experience our wolfdogs in person to learn about their unique nature, how we can reduce backyard breeding of these animals and the connected importance of wolf conservation. Located on 160 acres of land near Cochrane, Alberta and have a current pack 35 of resident wolfdogs and adoptable wolfdogs, all with different wolf content levels.

The Sanctuary was created to drive public awareness and education surrounding wolfdogs and wolves in the wild. The Sanctuary’s future goal is to become a resource for the conservation of wolves in the wild.

Wolfdog Sanctuary Walk

This self guided walk through the Sanctuary allows visitors to see the grounds and view our various packs of wolfdogs at your own pace. This is a great opportunity to learn interesting facts about wolfdogs and wolves, and support the Sanctuary.

What to Expect: 

• A self-guided walk of the sanctuary
• Enjoy the sanctuary at your own pace
• Photograph the wolfdogs from outside their enclosures

This tour takes you inside our Engadine enclosure into a viewing platform with one of the sanctuary’s guides. Enjoy the opportunity to learn all about the Sanctuary and get an introduction to what wolfdogs are all about through the 30-minute presentation. This is a great way to photograph one of our packs of wolfdogs as well as having full access to your very own wolfdog expert.

• The option to experience the Sanctuary Walk either before or after the scheduled tour time

Wolfdog Interactive Tour

The Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary provides an up-close and intimate look at wolf-dogs and insight to wolf behavour on this interactive tour. There are lots of photo opportunities while you listen to the sanctuary guardian who talks about wild wolves and their importance in the natural environment inside an enclosure.

• The option to experience the Sanctuary Walk either before or after the scheduled tour time

SANCTUARY RULES – You are a visiting a sanctuary, not a zoo, and our top priority is to protect the wellbeing of our wolfdogs. Many of our rescued wolfdogs have had negative experiences with humans prior to arriving at the sanctuary and therefore can be quite fearful of certain smells, sounds, and objects.
