These cities near Edmonton are among the best places to live in Alberta

If you’re on the hunt for a new place in Alberta to call home, WorldAtlas says a few communities in the Edmonton region are worth a closer look.

The list highlighted eight cities in the province, including three in the Edmonton region: Beaumont, Spruce Grove, and St. Albert. WorldAtlas pointed to factors like affordability, recreation, history, health-care access, and quality of life when ranking each city.

Beaumont was recognized for its French roots, village-style downtown, and easy access to both Edmonton International Airport and the Nisku Industrial Park. WorldAtlas also pointed to Four Seasons Park, the city’s trail network, and its relatively high household incomes as reasons it was selected. Detached homes generally sell in the $450,000 to $550,000 range.

“Beaumont rewards families who value character and strong earnings near airport-area work,” it said.

West of Edmonton, Spruce Grove was highlighted for its recreation options and family-friendly amenities. The city is home to the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre, Heritage Grove trail network, Horizon Stage Performing Arts Centre, and Grain Elevator Museum. The publication also noted that detached homes in Spruce Grove rank among the most affordable in the Edmonton region, holding well under the provincial average of $533,000.

St. Albert topped the Edmonton-area mentions. WorldAtlas pointed to the city’s vibrant history, Red Willow Park, St. Albert Farmers Market, and access to the Sturgeon Community Hospital. The publication also noted its schools and reputation for safety as reasons it continues to show up on best-places-to-live rankings.

“Families come for the schools, which post graduation rates above the provincial mark, and for the safety that keeps St. Albert on regional best-places-to-live lists.”

Other Alberta cities to make the list included Medicine Hat, Cochrane, Chestermere, Okotoks, and Canmore.
