Step into the underworld and see the dead come to life – or just come down to the Seattle Día de Muertos festival for their annual celebration!
The Seattle Center, in partnership with the Día de Muertos Festival Seattle, will be hosting the annual festival at the Armory Food and Event Hall. The event will take place on Saturday, October 26th, and Sunday, October 27th, and makes for the latest installment in the Seattle Center’s Festál series.
Seattle Center Festál is a year-round collection of 24 free cultural festivals, produced in partnership with community organizations.
This month’s Día de Muertos will include performances, elaborate altars, colorful face-painting, sugar skull workshops, and visual art among other activities.
According to the event website, the Seattle event started back in 1998 when a group of volunteers gathered to plan the first Day of the Dead in South Park. Of course, the tradition itself is much older, predating the arrival of the Spaniards in the Americas, meaning it could go back as far as 2,000 years ago!
The Seattle Día de Muertos Festival is free and open to the public. So bring your friends and get ready for a colorful community celebration.
When: Saturday, October 26th from 11 AM to 7 PM and Sunday, October 27th from 11 AM to 6 PM
