What to know about Deep Freeze fest kicking off in Edmonton next week

Just in time for Edmonton to not be in an actual deep freeze, Deep Freeze: A Byzantine Winter Fete is set to return to the city. Starting on Friday, January 14th, Deep Freeze is bringing a mixture of art, music and workshops to locations around Edmonton. You can learn about Ukrainian, Métis, French Canadian, Inuit, and Indigenous cultures through several art installations that feature Edmonton artists.

On the arts side, visitors can check out a variety of outdoor installations at Borden Park and Pipon Village. Borden Park will be an art walk, offering everything from giant lanterns to ice sculptures. Meanwhile, Pipon Village will have ‘art in all forms’ as well as storytellers, games, and bannock to enjoy.

Alongside these major installations and experiences, Deep Freeze will also be hosting a variety of live music performances, virtual and in-person workshops, and an indoor gallery space for you to appreciate (and maybe buy) works from local artists.

And the best part? It’s all free! You’ve only got 10 days to check out this amazing festival once it kicks off, so start planning now!
