Remember when the end of daylight saving time meant walking around the house, turning our clocks back an hour? Now, our phones do it for us. Although our lives have been made just a tad bit easier, it’s always great to know when to expect that extra hour of sleep.
Here’s your heads up, Ontario! Daylight saving time ends this weekend.
Clocks will be set back one hour from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. local time on Nov. 2, 2025.
For some, that means sleeping in a bit longer on Sunday morning, and for others, that means your night out just got extended.
This change also means sunrise and sunset times will begin an hour earlier. So say goodbye to late sunsets and say hello to darkness at 5 p.m.
According to Time and Date, Toronto can expect 7 a.m. sunrises and 4 p.m. sunsets as we head into November. And although that happens every single winter, it still doesn’t stop us from complaining about the lack of sunlight.
People have complained so much that, if you remember, several Canadian provinces, including British Columbia, Ontario, and Alberta, have pushed to end the centuries-old tradition of changing our clocks.
But there’s still no movement on that.
Back in 2020, Ontario passed the Time Amendment Act to remain on DST year-round. But, according to Time and Date, Ontario is unlikely to move forth with it “until New York State and Quebec formalize their positions, again to ensure alignment on trade and other economic factors.”
Let’s look at the bright side, though – if this year is any indication of how fast time is flying by, this winter will be gone before we know it.
Daylight saving time will return again on March 8, 2026.
When: Nov. 2, 2025
