Winter is almost at its end, which means it’s nearly time to ‘spring forward’ once again. After setting our clocks back last fall, it’s finally time to regain that extra hour of glorious daylight – and we, for one, can’t wait for daylight saving time to start.
This year, daylight saving time begins at 2 am on Sunday, March 10th, meaning that our clocks will ‘spring forward’ to 3 am on this date.
The good news is that we’ll get one more hour of daylight in the evening, and the sun will begin to set later as we approach the warmer months.
In Vancouver, this means that sunset will now take place at 7:10 p.m., based on the current sunset time.
The bad news is that we will technically lose an hour of sleep on March 10th. So don’t be too surprised when you wake up and check the clock on Sunday!

Back in 2019, a record number of British Columbians responded in favour of moving to permanent daylight saving time – which would do away with the practice of ‘springing forward’ and ‘falling back’ every year.
As of now, BC plans to move to permanent daylight saving time (DST) once the U.S. passes its own bill.
While the Sunshine Protection Act was approved by the Senate in March of 2022, it still needs to be approved by the House of Representatives and the President before becoming law.
Although there’s no progress in 2024 to note, there are a handful of areas in BC that have already scrapped Daylight Saving Time entirely, including Chetwynd, Creston, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, and Fort St. John.
So there you have it, BC. Enjoy the later sunsets!!
