Wow, Canadians have gotten crazy inventive this winter. From “Sail-boggans” to comfort food creations, we really felt like we had seen it all… until now. This week, an Ottawa made quite the name for himself, after debuting a gas-powered “jetpack” which is seen below gracefully propelling him across a sheet of ice.
Brydon Gibson, now, pretty well known to locals as “Rocketman,” has spent hours of his quarantime building a snazzy device that according to CBC news, allows him to reach a speed of up to 40 km/hr.

Honestly, what surprised us the most about this NASA inspired DIY, was how simple the mechanics were.
While some might assume that in order to go that fast, you’d have to have a ton of bells and whistles, this nifty pack was made using only a weed wacker motor, dollar store backpack straps, some wood and a few cables.
The only flaw? Well, there are no breaks on this bad boy. In order to stop, Gibson has to actually power the entire jetpack down, which isn’t ideal in a busier area.
Luckily, due to our current social climate, distancing is highly encouraged and he has been free to zip around safely. Check it out in the video above to see him in action yourself! It’s honestly pretty inspiring.
Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a garage full of spare parts to attend to. We’re suddenly feeling pretty crafty.
