How does skating in paradise sound? While it may not be warm and tropical, this open skating trail on Cootes Paradise is the perfect way to embrace winter!

Cootes Paradise is located within the Royal Botanical Gardens and here’s what you need to know about attending.

The designated skating area can only be used if the ice is thick enough, so you’ll want to check ahead of time. Ice is measured each Friday (before the end of the day), and updated at the on-site signage, and on Twitter.

Royal Botanical Gardens also cautions any guests to take time to read the signage in the area, follow the listed guidelines on site, respect the space of the wildlife and remain within 0.5 km of the ice access point. 

When you are packing your skates into your car, don’t forget a shovel too! Since Cootes Paradise is a natural space it is not maintained for perfect skating conditions and you may need to clear some snow!

Parking is available in the lot located at 335 Longwood Road costing a $10 parking flat rate when the parking lot is staffed and regular metered parking fees ($3 per hour) apply when unstaffed. Parking is free to Royal Botanical Gardens members.
