One of the coldest places in the world right now is in Ontario

One township can officially call itself the cold weather capital of Ontario today. Chapleau in the northern district of Sudbury is among the coldest places in the world right now, according to the online weather database Wx-Now.

The temperature in Chapleau today is a bone-chilling -21 C, feeling like -32 C. However, Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the region saying that wind chill values of -40 C are expected.

That makes it one of the 15 coldest places in the world, alongside several other regions in Canada like Winnipeg, Spiritwood West and Prince Albert in Saskatchewan, and Eureka and Shepherd Bay in Nunavut.

The coldest place in the world today is Eureka, where the temperature is -38 C and feels like -43 C.

Toronto isn’t much warmer. An extreme cold weather alert remains in effect in the city for the ninth day in a row, as wind chill values of -18 C are expected on Tuesday.

The city is also buried under a fresh blanket of snow after yesterday’s snow squall brought 10 cm of snow to parts of Toronto and the GTA.

According to The Weather Network’s 14-day forecast for Toronto, the warmest day we have to look forward to is Thursday, February 3rd, when a high of 1 C is expected. But, temperatures will drop right back into the negatives in the days to follow.

With no end to winter in sight, perhaps it’s time to soak the day away in your own private spa oasis near Toronto.
