This Ontario trail leads to towering cliffs & a viewing platform

Don’t let this weather stop you from enjoying some fun in the sun! It’s time to plan your next weekend trip and we have just the spot for you. If you’re a sucker for trails and scenic views, consider a trip to the beautiful John E Pearce Provincial Park.

It’ll take you about two hours to get to this park. It’s a haven for nature lovers, spanning 68 hectares in southwestern Ontario’s Carolinian forests.

Here, you can take in the amazing views from the 33-metre cliff overlooking the sparkling blue waters of Lake Erie.

Once you’ve soaked up the vistas, you can have a picnic in the cool shade of the forest canopy.

Venture through its two trails, the Spicer Trail and Wetland ‘Storey’ Trail.

As for the Spicer Trail, the 1.5 km journey leads through its ancient hardwood forest with its own set of interpretive stops and tree identification challenges.

One of the park’s standout features is its incredible birding opportunities.

Whether you’re a seasoned birder or a casual observer, you’ll be amazed by the diverse avian residents that call this place home.

Did you know that this park is also home to a beautifully restored 1850s Georgian-style house that provides a captivating glimpse into the rural Victorian society of days gone by.

For history aficionados, the Backus Page House Museum is a must-visit.

“It is one of the first brick homes built in what would eventually become Dunwich Township, now the Municipality of Dutton Dunwich,” shares its site.

It’s an adventure just waiting to be explored.
