The City of Vancouver is hiring across its departments & offering competitive base pay

On the active job hunt? The City of Vancouver has tons of open positions with “competitive base pay,” and many of them were recently posted. So whether you’re looking for your next temporary or seasonal role, or something more permanent, it’s worth checking out what’s available across the City’s departments.

Parks, Recreation, and Culture

It’s the season for camping and hiking, which means BC’s parks are in need of staff in various fields. According to the department page, Parks & Recreation employees connect residents to green spaces across the city, with jobs at parks, golf courses, community centres, playing fields, and a plethora of destination beaches and gardens.

Open roles include Community Youth Worker ($35.72 to $42.04 per hour) Kennel Attendant ($29.20 to $34.30 per hour), and Lifeguard I ($30.81 per hour).

For the latter, individuals with minimal to no lifeguarding experience can easily become licensed and earn $30+ an hour.

Engineering Services

If you’re looking for more options, the City’s Engineering Services division has a ton of open positions right now, ranging from Traffic Assistant ($25.93 to $30.41 per hour) to Engineering Assistant II (Water Quality Sampler) ($31.66 to 37.20 per hour) 

According to the City, its Engineering Services department is responsible for “infrastructure essential to the quality of life for residents and businesses,” which includes everything from sewage and drainage to public spaces, transportation, and water distribution. Hence, the “broad and varied work” it requires.

More divisions hiring

Finally, there are jobs available in Corporate Services, Real Estate and Facilities, Vancouver Public Library, Fire Rescue Services, and their Administration divisions, which you can look into on the City’s main job board. Salaries here range anywhere from $30 an hour to over $150k a year.
