From ‘Twilight’ to ‘Happy Gilmore’: This AR experience brings you to iconic filming locations in B.C.

B.C.’s film industry is thriving and there’s no better time than the present to explore where some of your favourite movies and TV shows were filmed. And now, there’s a new digital platform with all the info in one place!

Created in partnership between the film and tourism industries, Cineventure transforms some of the most iconic filming locations into immersive tourism experiences, offering both interactive routes and detailed trip itineraries depending on what you’re looking for.

North America’s fourth-largest film hub

“British Columbia has earned its place as North America’s fourth-largest production hub through decades of excellence in film and television production,” says Marnie Gee, BC Film Commissioner. “Cineventure now allows us to showcase this legacy in an entirely new way, creating a bridge between our creative industry and tourism sector.

Currently, there are 25 self-guided routes to explore across Greater Vancouver, showcasing the area’s versatility as a filming location. Explore locations from Riverdale, When Calls the Heart, Happy Gilmore, Twilight, Virgin River, Shogun, and much more!

Immersive routes & multi-day itineraries

Fans can explore the locations via the platform’s intuitive map interface, enhanced by an augmented reality (AR) feature called ReelView that allows you to hold up your phone at key places to see stills from scenes shot at those exact spots.

For example, Virgin River fans can follow a four-day itinerary to the charming streets of New West and Fort Langley, the iconic Watershed Grill (AKA Jack’s Bar onscreen), and carry on to the breathtaking vistas of Bowen Island.

During your trip, the platform has recommended stops at local landmarks, outdoor attractions, and restaurants that complement each production’s atmosphere, highlighting B.C.’s natural and cultural heritage.

New Cineventure routes & “easter eggs” to come

Cineventure includes filming locations in Burnaby, Langley, New Westminster, Richmond, Squamish, and Surrey, with additional municipalities committed to joining throughout 2025.

As new routes to different regions are added, the platform will expand its offerings to include discoverable “easter eggs” unlocked at specific locations, digital collectibles and achievements, gamification features like reward exploration, and deeper augmented reality features that bring your favourite scenes to life.
